Wayandotte Chooks

A Rare Breed of American Origin

Gold Laced Wyandotte Pullet

This breed is synonymous with lacing and the most common colour patterns are Silver Laced and Gold Laced. Wyandottes come in a multitude of solid colours and colour patterns: Black, White, Blue, Cuckoo, Buff Laced, Silver Laced, Blue Laced Red, to name just a few. Wyandotte bantams come in even more colour variations.

Wyandottes are excellent broodies – not only the bantams but also the large fowl. As they don’t lay while being broody, the number of eggs laid per season does not sound impressive but hatching and raising a clutch of chicks can be very valuable to their keeper.

Wyandottes are the only heavy breed available in New Zealand that has a rose comb which distinguishes these attractive birds from most other breeds. Unlike single combed birds, they have a fleshy flat comb which is dominant over single combs.
