Awassi Sheep

Awassi wool
Jumper made from dyed and naturally coloured Awassi yarn.

Awassi sheep are triple purpose: meat, milk and wool. They are mainly known for their milk production but they also produce a decent fleece. The staple is long and almost straight, the wool is quite strong so suitable for outer garments like work jumpers. The wool can be compared with a good quality Romney fleece and one fleece yields enough wool to make yarn for one or two large jumpers.

The wool is a pleasure to work with. It spins beautifully even and takes dye very well. Awassi sheep come in a variety of colours, including a very cool grey.
